What am I grieving that I haven't recognized as grief?

Grief is bigger than death.

We lose relationships and roles. Health and safety. Places, faith, belonging, and opportunity. Dreams we held, futures we imagined, and versions of ourselves we were once sure we'd become.

Most of these losses arrive without a funeral, a card, or a casserole. So we carry them quietly — often without knowing that what we feel has a name.

Oh. This is grief too.

Relationships Identity Health Belonging Dreams Expectations Roles Places Safety Faith Opportunity Imagined futures Versions of ourselves
The Loss Wheel

Four Movements, Two Hours

Recognition → Language → Embodiment → Tending

1
Recognition

Naming What We've Been Carrying

An introduction to the Loss Wheel and the premise that grief extends beyond death. Then, privately, you map yourself onto the wheel.

What have I never given myself permission to call grief?
2
Language

Why Some Losses Are Hard to Recognize

Ambiguous, disenfranchised, cumulative, and anticipatory grief — and the cultural hierarchy that decides which losses get witnessed.

Which losses have I been expected to quietly absorb?
3
Embodiment

Meeting Loss in the Body

Guided embodied practice to notice where loss lives in you, and what it asks for — breath, movement, sound, rest, or witnessing.

What happens in me when I name it?
4
Tending

From Recognition to Relationship

Choose one loss from your wheel and explore what mattered, what you long for, and what you are ready to let move.

What am I carrying forward?

Closing integration practice and ~10 minutes of Q&A.

"Sometimes our suffering becomes harder to understand because we have never been given a language of loss for what happened."

A language for what happened

You'll learn the concepts that make hidden losses visible — and see why some grief gets rituals, leave, and witnesses while other grief is expected to be quietly absorbed.

◦Ambiguous loss
◦Disenfranchised grief
◦Cumulative loss
◦Anticipatory grief
◦Identity loss
◦Secondary losses
◦Non-death loss

Who this is for

Anyone who senses they're carrying something heavy but hasn't quite been able to name it. You may be grieving a death — or a diagnosis, a divorce, a career, a home, a faith, a child you never had, or a life that turned out differently than you imagined.

You don't need to have lost someone to be grieving.

This is an educational and reflective experience, not therapy. Everything you map on your wheel stays private.
